About the drug : Statins (HMG-CoA (3 hydroxy-3 methyl glutaryl CoA) are a class of drugs that lower cholesterol levels.
Statins act by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase enzyme which is an imp
enzyme of HMG-CoA reductase pathway which is responsible for cholesterol
synthesis.
Acetyl-CoA ---> HMG-CoA ---> Mevalonic acid ---> Mevalonate--> Cholesterol
Thus HMG-CoA reductase (Statins) inhibits the synthesis of mevalonic acid by blocking the cholesterol pathway.
Fenofibrate is a prodrug, it's active metabolite (Fenofibric acid)
is responsible for its effects. fenofibric acid is an agonist of PPAR,
which in turn acts to reduce cholesterol levels.
